Rachel has previous experience in a variety of research nurse roles, including early phase and primary care. She joined the pancreatic and hepatobiliary team in June 2018 helping the multi-disciplinary team look after those patients that are participating or considering participating in clinical trials.
Her key responsibilities are to help identify patients eligible for clinical trials and to provide information and support for these patients and their family and friends. This involves planning treatment, assessing the patients including monitoring any side effects they are experiencing and trying to find ways to overcome these. She follows up the patients and collects relevant data in accordance with trial specific protocols.
Her role also involves liaising with a variety of other departments e.g. CT scanning and working closely with the Oncology day unit where the majority of the patients receive their treatments. She signposts patients to support groups and specialist nurses for additional support when this is required, ensuring that patients get the help they need when they need it.
