Anita Balakrishnan is a Consultant Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Surgeon at the Cambridge HPB Unit, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Associate Lecturer at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
She graduated with a BMedSci (1st Class Honours) and BMBS from the University of Nottingham and trained in HPB Surgery in Cambridge. Her PhD research was performed at Harvard Medical School and was recently awarded the Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. As an Academic Clinical Lecturer with the University of Cambridge she was awarded a grant by the Wellcome Trust for her research into the mechanisms behind the development of pancreatic cancer. Her research interests centre around the early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer. She is currently Chief Investigator of a national multicenter study exploring risk stratification for premalignant pancreatic cysts and continues her molecular biology research into pancreatic carcinogenesis at the MRC Cancer Unit.
